Another successful Family Law Institute!

On March 24 and 25, Ryan D. Anderson attended and presented at another successful, and well-attended Family Law Institute.  As an ongoing member of the Planning Committee for the FLI, Ryan enjoys watching the participants and attendees gather to teach and learn all about family law and the new developments over the past year.  This year, Ryan spent the majority of the second day participating in two panel discussions about Problem Gambling, alongside Joan Bibelhausen of Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers, Mary Magnuson of Jacobson, Magnuson, Anderson & Halloran, P.C., and the national speaker, Michael J. Burke, who shared his harrowing lifestory as a former attorney and compulsive gambler.  Based on the immediate feedback from both audiences, the panel presentation provided valuable insight and information for all in attendance.  Ryan is looking forward to another year of planning a successful Insitute for 2015.

Mr. Lubov named Chairman of the Trial Board

William L.H. Lubov has been named the Chairman of the Trial Board for the Twin Cities Musicians Union.  Mr. Lubov has been a member of the Union since 1963.  For more information about the Union, see: http://www.afm.org/locals/info/number/30-73

William L.H. Lubov named an Attorney of the Year

Congratulations to William L.H. Lubov for being named one of the 2013 Attorneys of the Year by Minnesota Lawyer. Minnesota Lawyer recognizes the best achievements in the Minnesota legal profession with the Attorneys of the Year award, based on leadership, involvement in major cases or other newsworthy events, excellence in corporate or transactional services and public services. Nominations were submitted by judges, bar groups, clients and fellow attorneys. Mr. Lubov fought to earn his client the largest settlement ever paid in Hennepin County to an in custody inmate. The newspaper will host an award program February 20, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis to recognize this year's honorees, and will publish a special section highlighting the honorees.

Bill Lubov has been appointed to the Governor's Taskforce for review of laws and procedures governing individuals who have been committed as mentally ill and dangerous.

Record Settlement

The efforts of Bill Lubov have resulted in the largest settlement of a claim for neglect of a Minnesota inmate.  Hennepin County has agreed to pay $1,000,000 for injuries suffered by our client when he was being held in the Hennepin County Jail.  As a direct result of the failure of staff to provide adequate mental health care, our client suffered self-inflicted stab wounds to both of his eyes, resulting in permanent blindness in one eye.

Another Successful Panel

On March 20, 2013, at the Family Law Institute in St. Paul, Minnesota, Ryan D. Anderson moderated another successul panel session regarding eCourtMN.  This year, Judge Robert Awsumb (2nd District), Judge Lisa Borgen (7th District) and Judge Peter Cahill (4th District) contributed their time and expertise to the panel discussion.  Judge Awsumb serves as the Presiding Judge of Family Court in Ramsey County and Judge Cahill serves as the Chief Judge of Hennepin County.  Judge Borgen, along with Judge Cahill, serves on the statewide committee that rolls out the eCourtMN system.  With all that Bench experience represented on the panel, the attorneys and professionals in attendance received answers to their questions and solutions to problems they did not even know they had.  Ryan enjoys his ongoing role in educating fellow attorneys about and stirring up enthusiasm for the Court's ongoing efforts to offer a truly "paperless" Court system.

If you would like to learn more about eCourtMN, please do not hesitate to contact Ryan.

Ryan Anderson to Moderate Panel at Family Law Institute

On Tuesday, March 27, 2012, Ryan D. Anderson of Lubov & Associates LLC (now Lubov Anderson) will moderate a panel at the Family Law Institute in St. Paul, Minnesota.  The panel will consist of Judge Robert A. Awsumb of Ramsey County, Judge Jeannice M. Reding of Hennepin County, and Leah Arteaga and Catherine Brey who work as administrators for the Courts.  The panel will present and discuss the progress made by Hennepin and Ramsey Counties in rolling out their respective electronic filing/service procedures.  Those in attendance will receive valuable information on the e-filing process, updates scheduled for the future, and plans for further expansion.  With the progress made by Lubov & Associates in our development of a "paperless" protocol, Ryan was a natural choice to moderate the e-filing panel.  After March 27, feel free to contact Ryan to discuss these developments and the information provided by the panel!

The Family Law Insitute is a two-day event put on by Minnesota CLE every spring in late March or early April.  This year's Institute consists of fifty-nine break-out sessions, ninety-nine family law expert presenters, and invaluable case law and legislative updates.  By participating in the planning committee and by attending the Family Law Institute every year, the lawyers here at Lubov & Associates (now Lubov Anderson) assure their clients that they have the most up-to-date information at hand when guiding clients through the ever-increasing complexity of a family law legal proceeding.
